Kolaco: Administration Services
 | Systems Administration Services
Although Kolaco focuses primarily on application development, we believe that an application running on a poorly set up and configured network is not a good application, at least to the user community – and that is what really matters. Being certified developers requires the completion of at least one of the two systems administration courses and exams. This forces good developers to understand the network and keep in mind the specific topology when developing applications. For example, an application that sends a message to a user on a different mail server notifying them of a document that requires their action, will not always work in an environment where mail routing is happening faster than replication. The user will click on the doclink and receive an error if the linked item has not been transferred to the database version on the user’s server, yet.
Keeping in mind these limitations and constraints when developing applications helps users avoid receiving error messages that, by the time the error is logged into the help desk, the error is gone since the databases have replicated.
As part of our application development and implementation process we review the name and address book entries to understand the topology used and how the application will fit in to the current environment. As a result of this review, we create a document that outlines recommended steps for optimizing the infrastructure set up, not only to accommodate the applications we build, but to merely optimize the configuration of the network for better performance all around. |
